(Artplus Erase) which totally erased the card's contents and would bring it back to factory state. Again, after lots of research, I found another software. Then, I got hold of a free software - vaiosoft recovery manager /products/recoverymanager.html, and managed to recover the photographs even from the formatted card.

I then had to do lots of research on the web then, as I had given up all hope of accessing this card ever again. But pop it back into the camera, and the card error would pop up. Now, the card was perfectly readable in windows and the card reader. Now, the sad part, I popped the card back into the card reader, and as usual - got the windows message asking me to format, and that, I did. now, thinking I've lost everything, I pressed yes, on the format message, but it wouldn't format either! Thinking I would be able to retrive the photographs, I popped the card back into the camera and viola! the camera goes "CARD ERROR".

Now, I was transferring some of the next day's photographs via the card reader and a message suddenly pops up, asking me "unable to read Drive X would you like to format?". So, I'd taken some photographs of this event of ours - an exhibition of our photography group at If so, and if anything goes wrong, your XD card will be unreadable in the camera, and you won't be able to format it.
